The FIA has banned teams from changing their cars engine mapping between the qualifying session and the race.
This change was implemented because it was felt that teams, especially Red Bull were able to gain an unfair advantage.
The Qualifying Session indicated that the change was ineffective.
An F1 car is controlled using computer software. As with the entire car, performance can be enhanced or reduced by balancing engine adjustments to meet strategic objectives. This is known as Engine Mapping. The rule change above means that the engine mapping cannot be changed between qualifying and the race.
